NATURE FACILITATES A COMMUNITY

The concept for the building is that it support a sense of the community – therefore, the entire building is interconnected by a footpath, about a kilometre long, windin up the walls in a double loop to the top of the building.
The large inner courtyard appears as one large space and as many smaller ones. The courtyard featuresseveral levels with different surfaces whose texture and colour divide up the space: From soft grass, one moves on tohard asphalt and then into a play area with a soft rubber surface. Steel edging from Milford separates the courtyard areas to emphasize their varying qualities.
The FIGURE 8 HOUSE, known to many as the “BIG HOUSE,” has recently achieved the honour of being included in MoMA - the Museum of Modern Art in New York City - in its permanent art exhibition. In addition, the FIGURE 8 HOUSE was previously designated the world’s best residential housing, and in 2010 it received the Scandinavian Green Roof Award.
